The Riverdale Mental Health Association (RMHA) is a not-for-profit
agency that has provided service to the residents of the Bronx for 47 years. Through
its mental health center, a broad program of outpatient psychiatric
services is provided for the community by a highly qualified and
experienced multi-disciplinary professional staff. These services include
an early childhood center; a discrete child and adolescent program; adult
services; after-care and continuing day treatment for seriously mentally ill persons; a substance abuse
and alcohol abuse treatment program; a
supported employment program; mental health consultation
program for early childhood/day care programs, local public schools,
community social service agencies and senior centers; a 15-bed supervised
community residence and 15 Supported Apartments. RMHA is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health and the New
York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services. As a
not-for-profit agency, services are offered on a low-cost sliding scale
basis for persons who cannot afford the full cost of care; Medicaid,
Medicare, private insurance and many managed care plans are accepted.
No one is denied service because of inability to pay.
The agency has earned a reputation for excellent service and
management and is a highly regarded field placement site for graduate
students from professional training programs. In 1994, RMHA received the second annual Mental Health Agency
Award from the New York City Department of Mental Health for exceptional
performance. RMHA works closely with local community agencies and provides
services off-site at several local schools and agencies.
The mental health center receives funds for its programs from the City
of New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, York
State Office of Mental Health, the New York State Office of Alcohol and
Substance Abuse Services, the New York State Education Department, NYC
Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), and the New York State
Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). Contributions from individuals,
businesses, foundations and United Way help to make up the difference
between fees, government support and the full cost of care.
The center is licensed by New York State Office
of Mental Health and New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance
Abuse Services.
