THE RIVERDALE MENTAL HEALTH CENTER
WHY YOU MAY WISH TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE RIVERDALE MENTAL HEALTH CENTER
There might be members of your family, close friends, or perhaps you, yourself,
who have problems, fears or worries that can no longer be handled alone and
which interfere with your daily living and present functioning to maximum ability.
WHAT DOES THE CENTER OFFER...
You can call the Center to get information on the following:
o Evaluation of your problems and recommendations for treatment.
o Treatment in a safe confidential environment.
o Referral for evaluation and treatment through other facilities or privately.
WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS ARE TREATED AT THE CENTER…
Fears and worries that you can no longer manage by yourself.
Concern about your child, husband or wife.
Everyday types of emotional problems that become too big for you to handle, such as employment difficulties,
school pressures, marital problems, depression, loneliness and other problems of that nature.
Problems related to substance abuse and alcoholism involving adolescents and adults.
Or, you might have recently been hospitalized for a psychiatric problem and need help in adjusting to home and community life again or in getting back to work.
HOW TO REQUEST SERVICES…
If you are interested in our services, you may call the Center at 718-796-5300 and speak to the Intake Worker,
who will answer your questions and obtain information from you to facilitate your admission.
An intake appointment will be scheduled for you as soon as possible. If you prefer, you may come to the agency
and speak to the Intake Worker in person or send an e-mail to intake@rmha.org
WHAT IS THE COST…
The full fee for the initial evaluation is $125.00 and $85.00 per visit for ongoing treatment. You can apply for a reduced fee, which is determined on the basis of your income and size of your family. We are participating providers in many managed care programs, such as HIP. Other private insurance coverage such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield may be accepted toward the full cost of service. The Patient Accounts Manager can answer further questions.
We accept Medicaid, Medicaid-Bronx Health Plan and Medicaid-HIP as full payment for service. Patients who are Medicaid eligible are encouraged to apply at the local Medicaid Office and are charged $15.00 per visit pending approval of medical assistance. These fees are reimbursed to the patient once Medicaid is approved. The Patient Accounts Manager can answer further questions.
Medicare is accepted toward the cost of service. You are responsible for 50% of the approved Medicare fee. Supplements to Medicare provided by private insurance may be applied toward the remaining balance, pending approval. The Patient Accounts Manager can answer further questions.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE…
All services are available to all residents of the Bronx and to Manhattan and Westchester residents as space is available. The substance Abuse Treatment Program is available to all New York State residents
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT…
No. The center treats children, adolescents and adults (including older adults).
WHO WILL BE ADMITTED…
If treatment is recommended, you will be assigned to a therapist. If our Center is not the appropriate place for your treatment, or if we cannot offer service as quickly as necessary, a staff member will help you obtain the service you require. Your participation is, of course, voluntary.
WHO WILL TREAT YOU…
You will be assigned to the staff member who is the most appropriate person for your treatment, and assignment will be made on the basis of your individual needs. The Center has a multi-disciplinary staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, occupational therapist, psychiatric nurse, and other specialists. They provide over 40,000 hours of service a year to almost 2,000 children, adolescents, adults and elderly at the center and through outreach to community agencies and schools. Bi-lingual therapists are available for Spanish speaking patients.
WHAT KIND OF TREATMENT WILL YOU RECEIVE…
The Center provides a full range of treatment services including individual, group, and family therapy, marital counseling and medication. There is also a Day Center,
which is an integral part of our Continuing Day Treatment Program.
HOW LONG WILL YOUR TREATMENT TAKE…
Length of treatment varies, and is dependent upon your individual requirements.
WHAT YOU MAY WISH TO KNOW ABOUT THE QUALITY OF CARE AT THE CENTER…
The Riverdale Mental Health Center is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health and the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, and maintains high professional standards. All professional staff is licensed by the State of New York.
In addition to its professional staff, the Center has an active and involved Board of Directors which provides oversight and a Professional Advisory Committee comprised of leading doctors and psychiatrists from the area and a community advisory committee.
The Center has been selected to provide professional training for graduate students in social work, from Hunter College School for Social Work and the New York University School of Social Work, graduate students from Columbia University Occupational Therapy Program, and medical students from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, psychology externs from Ph.D. programs at Fordham University and Yeshiva University.
WHAT OTHER SERVICES DOES THE CENTER PROVIDE TO THE COMMUNITY…
o Professional Mental Health consultation to guidance counselors and other school personnel at local schools, day care centers other community agencies.
o Professional mental Health consultation to senior citizens centers, nursing homes, adult residences, and other facilities and programs for the aged.
o Educational programs for the community, including family life and parent education, drug prevention programs, bi-polar illness and other programs on mental health-related issues.
o Upon request, the center will provide information to individuals and agencies about other community resources.
